About - Marine Professional

A specialist for marine engineering and maintenance, I provide operational, technological and organizational expertise with a focus on marine systems design.

I started my career in 1998 as a marine engineering officer in the Royal Netherlands Navy. After several operational positions, I was assigned to the ADCF newbuilding program, first as a commissioning manager and afterwards as a project manager for propulsion, power generation and automation.

Upon completion of the project in 2005, I decided to leave the Navy to pursue an international career in marine system integration and services, and was fortunate to be able to work for global marine market leaders: Siemens, Imtech and Caterpillar.

Throughout my career in both navy and industry, I have been privileged to work on both strategic and operational levels, around the globe. This resulted in a profound knowledge of the maritime industry in Europe, North- and South America, Russia and the Middle East.

My ambition is to support clients, to architect business solutions based and improve the market proposition of the companies I work with.

Philosophy

I believe that technology, if applied wisely, can make systems, maintenance and organizations more efficient and less vulnerable to seemingly unpredictable events.

However, technology should only be applied when organizational structures and dynamics are fully understood. This is a leading principle in my work as a consultant.

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.’
